This cheat sheet will help you easily calculate percentages.

Understanding Percentages

• Percentage means "out of one hundred".
• % is the symbol for percentage.

Basic Percentage Calculations

Divide then multiply

1. Find the fraction: Divide the percentage by 100. e.g., 20% = 20/100
2. Multiply: Multiply the fraction by the number you want to find the percentage of.

Example: What is 20% of 80?

1. 20/100 * 80 = 0.2 * 80 = 16
2. Therefore, 20% of 80 is 16.

Multiply then divide

1. Multiplying the number by the percentage value.
2. Divide the result by 100.

Example: A shop sells a shirt for $60. The discount is 15%. Calculate the discount amount.

1. Result: $60 * 0.15 = $9
2. Therefore, the discount amount is $9.
